Special Tax Preparation Model For 2021
We WILL be open to prepare taxes for the 2021 tax season. But, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will change our process of preparing taxes. The model we'll be using is called "Low Contact". Here is a brief summary of how it will work.
- You MUST call to make an appointment. We cannot have any walk-in sites this year. Some of our sites will not be open in 2021, because there isn't enough room to be socially distant.
- When you contact us, the volunteer will make TWO appointments for you, a week apart. Both appointments will be short, only 15 minutes or so. The volunteer will also arrange for you to get two documents, (1) Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet and (2) Instruction sheet with appointment time and location. You must complete the Intake/Interview & Quality Review Sheet and bring it with you to the first appointment, along with your 2020 tax documents.
- YOU MUST WEAR A MASK AT EACH APPOINTMENT. All volunteers will wear masks, practice social distancing, etc. You must bring to the first appointment the completed form plus your 2020 tax documents (1099-R, W-2, SSA-1099, etc.) plus your 2019 tax return and documents and drivers license or other photo ID. At the site, we will review your forms and scan them. The scanned package will then be delivered to a trained Tax-Aide preparer. The preparer may call you with questions about your taxes.
- At the second appointment, you will receive your completed tax return to review. There will be some forms for you to sign. After you sign, your tax return will be filed, usually electronically.
- Please go to our Locations; Appointments; Scope page for information on how to make your appointments.
